Below are excerpts:

HOW has it been since you assumed the saddles are what did you meet on ground as the function of the parastatal?

Well, Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) is a parastatal that works with the Universal Basic Education Commission ( UBEC )   in Abuja to provide and ensure that every Nigerian child from the level of nursery to junior secondary School, JSS3 has assess to free and qualitative education. So this commission works with UBEC to ensure that in Abia State here every Abia State child that is within this age bracket of nursery to JSS3 has access to free and quality and compulsory education.

And basically ASUBEB ensures that teachers are well taken care of.

 Comfortable  furniture

ASUBEB provides infrastructure used in the construction and reconstruction of school classrooms and provides comfortable furniture and also provides textbooks that are distributed from Abuja to the states and we extend these textbook to the schools across the state.

We also train and retrain teachers and this is done annually by the Board and we see to the affairs of teachers especially in recruiting teachers, their promotion and their retirements. We administer funds that are provided by the Federal Government through UBEC to the states for projects and we supervise the schools and the projects and ensure that quality learning is in progress in the schools.

Retrogressively, since the inception of the present democratic dispensation in 1999, low can you evaluate the impact of the government on the board and   the education sector?

Yes, I must say that from the administration of the immediate past Governor of the state, Chief T.A Orji now a Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial Zone from 2007, that was when the dream of Abia State to get to the zenith of   primary schools education was actualized. Within this time that we achieved quite a lot in Primary School education in Abia State.

There are so many achievements so numerous to mention. Let’s start with the provision of infrastructure, it is on record that the administration of the else while Governor, T.A. Orji constructed and reconstructed 635 classroom blocks across the three senatorial zones of the state, trained and retrained 70,687 teachers and provided computer sets and infrastructural materials were provided for schools. Toyota Hilux cars were provided for the 17 Education Secretaries for effective supervision of schools.
