A traditional ruler, the Olofin of Ilisan Remo in Ikenne Local Government area of Ogun State, Oba Mojeed Olufemi Sonuga has dismissed a sex scandal allegation against him saying it is aimed at blackmailing him.

The Oba was reported to have had carnal knowledge of a disabled female indigene of the town and aborted the pregnancy that resulted.

But Oba Sonuga, according to a statement signed by the chairman, Ilisan Development Association (IDA), Dr. Waheed Osinowo, distanced himself from the allegation.

Sonuga said: “Ordinarily, I would not have reacted to the allegation but for the fact that my silence may be misconstrued by those who may not know what I stand for. “In all my years as a lawyer, even in the United Kingdom, I have always stood up for all that is good and lawful and this remains an integral part of me till date.”

Tracing the genesis of the issue, the monarch said though he knew the lady allegedly involved but his relationship with her never went beyond the level of occasional financial assistance.

According to him, when the rumour initially started flying around, a powerful delegation of Ilisan sons and daughters met the mother of the lady who declared that her daughter was not even pregnant.

According to him, Ilisan like every other part of Nigeria needs peace at this time to move forward.

“In the last few decades, Ilisan has shed the toga of violent town. The cost of this violence remains incalculable. The town has witnessed tremendous developmental projects during my reign in the last few years. My people should continue to support me to take our land to where we ought to be,” he stated.
