A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered two leading Nigeria banks (names withheld) to show why they should not be compelled to pay the entitlements of five expelled  Lagos State University (LASU) dons.

The court’s decision was sequel to a motion ex-parte filed by the lecturers asking the court to compel the university through garnishee order to pay them from the University’s account domiciled with the banks.

In an enrolment of order made by Justice S.A. Onigbanjo of an Ikeja High Court, the banks were directed to appear before the court to show why they should not be ordered to pay the sum of N66.6 million as the benefits due to the five ex-university lecturers, Professors Adele Jinadu, Ajibade Rokosu, Olorunfemi Osafehinti, Kehinde Obidairo and Victor Adisa, 16 years after they were sacked from the school.

When the matter came up before the court, the banks were represented by lawyers, who told the court that they appeared due to the order of the court asking for a short date to respond to the issue.

However, it was gathered that the state government is appealing to the claimants to give them some times to pay the outstanding judgement debts.

The lecturers were sacked in a controversial circumstances, but are yet to receive their entitlement and pension.
