Ibadan—Not fewer than six people, including students of the Polytechnic, Ibadan were said to have died in a fatal motor accident that occurred on Ibadan-Oyo road yesterday.

Thirteen  others were said to be seriously injured.

The accident, as Vanguard gathered, happened at Omotunde Village, Oyo.

Further details showed that the accident happened around 6.00 pm when a Hummer Bus of the Quantity Surveying Department of the institution which was conveying some burst and somersaulted many times before flinging some of the passengers out.

When the dust settled, four died on the spot while two others with severe injuries died later.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps were there through the directive of the Sector Commander, Mr Yusuff Salami.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Yusuff Salami said “We are still making compilation”.

The Public Relations Officer, The Polytechnic Ibadan, Mr Soladoye Adewole, said “I just got the news not quite long. We have not been able to ascertain the number of deaths, but we have actually recorded some deaths. Our Director of Medical Services and Registrar, Mr Ezekiel Fehintola has gone to the scene. We have not been given full details of the incident”.

However, confirming the accident, the State Public Relations Officer, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu said it happened this evening (yesterday).

According to him, six passengers died, while thirteen others were seriously injured.

He added that the corpses had been taken to a private hospital in the area.
