BENIN—A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2016 governorship election in Edo State, Chief Solomon Edebiri, yesterday, said that it was only through fielding a credible candidate in the election that the party could dislodge the All Progressives Congress, APC, government in the state.
Edebiri, in an interview with Vanguard, in Benin, advised his party against imposition of a candidate, saying that the practice would be counter-productive for the party in the forthcoming governorship election.
He said that although the APC government in the state has had its fair share of governance after eight years in the state, “only a credible name will help PDP to win back the people’s trust. Remember, it was Adams Oshiomhole’s name that won him the election in 2007 not his party. Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, sold the party using Oshiomhole’s name and it rode to victory even though it was a PDP government at the centre.
“PDP in like manner, should shop for a credible and trusted name with the zeal to serve the people to field in the forthcoming governorship election.”
