PORT HARCOURT—A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has adjourned till August 20, for ruling in the suit by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, challenging the powers of Governor Nyesom Wike to set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate his administration.
Trial judge in the matter is Justice Simeon Amadi.

It will be recalled that Governor Wike had set up a commissioner of inquiry headed by Justice George Omereji to look into allegations around these issues “sale of Omoku 150MW Gas Turbine, Afam 360 MW Gas Turbine, Trans Amadi 136MW Gas Turbine and Eleme 75 MW Gas Turbine, the sale of Olympia hotel, the monorail project, the non-execution of the construction of the Justice Adolphus Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital after the payment of alleged $39.2,000 to the supposed contractor, the disbursement or use by the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture of the sum of alleged the N2 billion Agriculture Credit Guarantee Scheme fund, the withdrawal of expenditure of the accrued N96b from the Rivers State Reserve Fund Law No 2 of 2008.”

The commission called for memoranda on the issue last month.

Meantime, former Governor Amaechi challenged the move by the state government to look into the issues.

Attorney General of the state, Mr Ema Aguma said the instrument setting up the commission did not contravene the provisions of the 199 constitution as amended of the Rivers State Law, Cap 50.
