After their brilliant live presentation at the just concluded 2015 Microsoft Imagine Cup competition held in Seattle, Washington, the spokesperson of Team LifeWatch , Raymond Obinaju has disclosed that they seek to save an estimated 25 million people living with asthma in Nigeria, and about 334 million people globally with AsthmaVisor solution.

Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world’s premier student technology competition that gives students the opportunity to break new ground, solve tough problems facing the world today.

Team Nigeria is made up of four innovative students from Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, The members included Adeyemo Oluwaseun, Kevin Ahwin, Sobola David and Raymond Obinaju .

Obinaju who spoke to Vanguard in an exclusive interview said that AsthmaVisor was design their Team to l reduce the morbidity rate of asthma, and consequently reduce the death toll due to asthma by providing adequate environmental and physiological supervision for patients.

AsthmaVisor, according to him, is a solution geared towards a more cost-effective and efficient way of supervising asthmatic patients, especially children.

“ It comprises of a Wearable device and a Mobile App. We aim to reduce child mortality and minimize the overall fatality of respiratory diseases by providing adequate environmental and physiological supervision for patients.

“We have a singular passion-saving lives. Driven by this goal, we continually seek to leverage on technology to make health care more efficient, accessible, and reliable”, he explained.

It would be recalled that soon after their brilliant live presentation in the World Citizenship category before Microsoft panel of judges, the innovative solution caught the attention of Microsoft.

This development has shown that made in Nigeria solution has capacity for global competitiveness if given opportunity and the right platform.

“I was thrilled by your live presentation by the panel of judges. Your Team has done well. It is possible to partner on the dust sensor which is the only missing link in the product. But it will take little time though.

We are looking for robust solution like this that will better people’s lives. We can partner on your vision. We can start discussion. You need to work on the dust sensor if you want to get it right”, Dennis Tom, Senior Director, Program Management, Microsoft Corporation who was thrilled by the solution told the students during a meeting held with them to work out plans on possible working relationship.

Meanwhile, thirty three Teams across the globe had competed in the 2015 Imagine Cup in one of the three categories including World Citizenship, Innovation and Games.

The three 2015 competition categories were designed to inspire students to use their imagination and passion to create technology solutions on the Microsoft platform. The competition had 113 students globally representing 33 teams that competed in the 2015 Imagine Cup World Finals.
