A member of House of  Representatives, representing  Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, Linus Okorie, has called on the newly appointed Service Chiefs to act swiftly by going back to the drawing board  to put an end to the lingering onslaught by the Boko Haram insurgents on innocent citizens.

Speaking to reporters in Enugu, yesterday, Okorie said that while he commended the effort of President Buhari in appointing the new Service Chiefs, “Mr. President must know that the people have become increasingly impatient and can hardly wait any longer to see the total defeat of the insurgents.”

The  new Service Chiefs, he said, should also quickly design and implement strategies to counter the rising wave of suicide bombings by the Boko Haram terrorists with better synergy and coordination devoid of rivalry between and among the different security outfits.

According to him: “There should be a coordinated perspective in the President’s security team to avoid incidences of “personality clashes and sundry rivalry as are being currently insinuated.

“Specifically, there should be no interference with the functions of the office of the National Security Adviser, which along with that of the Attorney-General of the Federation/Minister of Justice is the  major coordinating body of the Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act 2013.”

While expressing concern over the cessation of regular dissemination of information by the National Information Centre on Counter-Terrorism, Okorie stated that it is the duty of all stakeholders to dispel misinformation and reduce anxieties generated by terrorists.

“There is absolute need to engage and communicate better with the citizenry on ongoing efforts aimed at curbing the scourge of terror and the activities of the Boko Haram sect, especially now that the National Information Centre on Counter-Terrorism appears to have gone numb since the inception of the Buhari administration.”
