LAGOS—MOTORCYCLES spare parts dealers in the ASPAMDA section of International Trade Fare Market, Lagos, have petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase over attempts by their leaders to relocate their market to a new site within the Trade Fair on June 5, until their internal feud was resolved.

In a petition signed by Messrs. Fredrick Mmegwa, David Eze, Peter Elo and Michael Ogbodo on behalf of the traders, they insisted that the police authorities must stop the relocation to avert imminent crises, as it is without the general acceptance of all members of the association.

The statement reads in part: ‘’We started building the shops on our new site since 2009 and when the buildings were completed, our executive members did not call us to discuss the modalities of allotting the shops. Rather, they engaged in shady deals in the allotment of the shops. They allotted the shops on the ground floor to themselves and their relations, as well as investors who induced them with bribes.

‘’Sadly, in this shady deal, we discovered that the chairman, his executives and their relations got between 5 and 10 shops in the new site, whereas 90 per cent of our members who have made payments were allotted shops upstairs, aware that the shops upstairs are originally built as packing stores (warehouses).”
