Gusau—The Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdul Aziz Yari has said that his government had paid N23 billion out of the N47 billion it inherited from the government of Mahmuda Shinkafi in 2011.
The figure paid, according to the governor, represents about 48 per cent of the total amount owed to various banks and organizations across the country.
Yari spoke in an interview with Vanguard shortly after he was sworn in for a second term in office in Gusau, the state capital.
He said his government would concentrate on developmental projects, particularly those that had to do with the improvement of lives of the common man in the state.
According to the governor who was emotional over the turn-out of the people who converged at the venue to witness his swearing in, said his administration will not leave any stone unturned toward realising the dream of the people with whose mandate he was occupying the seat.
The governor also explained that his government would not relent in its efforts to ensure continued peaceful coexistence among the people.
He said: “Whoever thinks that he is only there to create problem and tension among the people should just pack his luggage and leave the state, because there is no room for that as we cannot fold our arms and allow some undesirable elements to disrupt the peace which we have been enjoying for decades.”
