May 29: Bayelsa plans grand reception for President Jonathan, wife

Yenagoa—Bayelsa State Government, yesterday, said plans have been concluded to accord President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience, a grand reception today in Yenagoa after his disengagement from office.

Accordingly, movement is expected to be restricted at designated areas in the capital city and Otuoke, the President’s home town, given the anticipated influx of visitors to the state.

Jonathan, according to the state government, has over the years performed meritoriously and deserved to be honoured by his kinsmen and the state.
President Jonathan is expected to arrive Yenagoa today accompanied by his wife, Dame Patience and other top government functionaries.

Speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa, the state Commissioner for Information, Esueme Dan-Kikile, said the outgoing president served the nation meritoriously.
He said: “The government and people of the state are proud of him as our beloved son,” adding that the hosting of Mr. President by his kinsmen was to demonstrate that Bayelsans love him and also demonstrate the gratitude of Bayelsans to Nigerians for the honour done him for giving their son the opportunity to lead the nation.

“The government and the people of Bayelsa feel proud to celebrate him as the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The reception will take place at the state cultural centre, Yenagoa and later the president will be received by his kinsmen at Otuoke.
“We also thank the people of Bayelsa State and South/South region for the support accorded President Jonathan to serve the country,” he said.
