KADUNA—The incoming governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El Rufai yesterday made a U-turn over his allegations that the out-going administration of Ramalan Yero was a roguish regime, saying that he did know that things were not as bad as he thought.

El-Rufai had said at different times in the past painted a gloomy picture of the state economy, blaming the situation on looting by the outgoing officials.

However, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, who reversed himself when he received the handover notes of the administration from Yero shortly after he had vowed to pursue the alleged looters whom he likened to armed robbers at a public lecture earlier in the day.

Yero, had said on the occasion that he was handing over about N8.6 billion  cash in various accounts. He also said that the state was leaving behind a debt of N73.45 billion.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Yero said: “We have done our best within the time and circumstances that we have found ourselves. We have embarked on 82 projects of various descriptions and we have completed 39. We are leaving behind N8.6 billion cash in various accounts. And we are also leaving behind a total debt profile of N73.4 billion.
