Lagos, JICA partner to boost community health

LAGOS—THE Lagos State Government in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, yesterday commenced a pro-poor community health project aimed at strengthening outreach services in communities across the state.

The project is also designed to encourage members of the community to take advantage of health care services provided at the Primary Health Centres, PHCs, close to them.

Flagging off the project at the Eti-Osa Local Government Secretariat, Special Adviser to the  governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina explained that the project presently implemented in Eti-Osa LGA is targeted at poor communities where lack of finance, poor accessibility to health services and limited knowledge about health services is inhibiting unfettered access to healthcare services.

Listing would – be beneficiaries to include Ikota, Bambo, Ebute, Ajiran, Jaknde, Ebute-Ikate areas of the state, Adesina said the pro-poor community health project being sponsored by JICA commenced in 2014 and is expected to run through year 2018.
