With less than three weeks to the start of the Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand, Nigeria’s opponent in their opening game, Brazil, have sacked coach Alexandre Gallo.
Nigeria will be hoping to pick her first win at the Under-20 level against Brazil when both teams clash in New Plymouth on the 31st of May 2015 and their chances have received a big boost.
Gallo was dismissed as coach of the Under-20 and 23 teams of Brazil, following a string of poor results and his replacements were named almost immediately.
New Brazil Football Confederation president Marco Polo Del Nero ordered a change of coaches in their youth teams in his bid to reposition their football after a disastrous world cup campaign last year.
Brazil media reported that the coach was axed due to the team’s poor performances especially at the last Copa America under-20 championship.
The man who will now be in the dug out against the Flying Eagles of Nigeria will be Rogerio Micale while senior team coach Carlos Dunga will handle the Under-23.
