Nollywood actor Ejike Asiegbu, was on top of the world last Friday, as he received a royal blessing from Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II, after playing the role of Olu Akengbuwa,a historical play by Alex Eyengho which was staged to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the coronation of the Warri monarch in Warri, Delta State.

The bulky actor, leading other stars on stage impressed the traditional ruler with his excellent interpretation of the role of Olu Akengbuwa, who was the 16th Olu of Warri and the last Warri monarch before the 88 years interregnum in the ancient kingdom. He was the longest occupier of the Warri throne and the wealthiest of all the Olus of Warri of his time.

Watching Asiegbu re-invoked the ghost of Olu Akengbuwa, on stage, left the Warri monarch reflecting deeply on the past of his people. After the presentation of the drama, Asiegbu and Alex Eyengho, where invited to the Olu’s Palace where they received royal blessings and accolades from the Warri monarch.

The Olu’s subjects and friends who gathered at his palace the following day to pay him homage also commended the performance and praised for the actors.

In another development, Asiegbu has been appointed Champion for the National Campaign of the State of the Union (SOTU) Project in Nigeria by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC). In a letter signed by Auwal Ibrahim Musa and dated May 5, the actor’s appointment as Ambassador of the body is part of moves aimed at mobilizing “citizens’ participation in the entire governance process in pushing for accountability in governance.”

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) in its commitment towards building a Nigeria where citizens’ are at the heart of governance and ensuring participation and increased exclusivity in the development, implementation and monitoring of laws and policies has in the last three years been implementing the State of the Union (SOTU) project.

SOTU is a coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working across various government thematic areas on the African continent that advocate for the ratification, domestication and implementation of key African Union (AU) conventions and legal instruments.
