PORT HARCOURT— Rivers State chapter of Parliamentary Staff of Nigeria, PSN, has declared an indefinite strike in the state over unpaid allowances by the leadership of the state House of Assembly.

Chairman of the body, Mr Okeleke Liu, who announced the strike action, yesterday, said they were owed 2013 and 2014 allowances by the state House of Assembly.

He said that all efforts made to see the Speaker of the House to resolve the issue were frustrated, adding that they wrote letters to him that were not replied.

Meantime, the Rivers State Government said it had paid salaries up to March, adding that the one for April would soon be cleared.

State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, told Vanguard: “The state government wishes to note that all civil servants employed by the Government of Rivers State have been paid salaries up to the month of March with plans to commence payment of April salaries.

“The Rivers State Government has continued to ensure the payment of staff salaries because it believes that the welfare of its workers must be paramount in governance.”
