OWERRI—Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiatiscal Province, Dr. Anthony Obinna, has decried the high level of fraud and brigandage that still permeate the democratic system, despite years of electioneering in the country.

Consequently,  he advised politicians to aim at leaving credible legacies for which they would be remembered, instead of arming hoodlums to cause all manner of havoc in the society.

Archbishop Obinna gave the advice while delivering the sermon at a requiem mass in honour of the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor George O. S. Amadi, at St. James Catholic Church, Ohuba Ubomiri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area.

“It is sad that years after the current democratic engineering started, the process is still bedevilled by all manner of electoral fraud, including snatching of ballot boxes. There are also reports of blood-letting during elections.”
