ENUGU — ENUGU State police command, yesterday, sounded a note of warning to aggrieved protesters over the xenophobic attacks in South Africa, saying the command would not condone any breach of the law.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who gave the warning, also confirmed that the command was on red alert to protect South Africans living in the state and their business investments.

A visit by our reporter to Shoprite complex in Enugu, yesterday, showed the increased presence of eagle-eyed security men in plain clothes milling around.

The PPRO, in an answer to a  question on their preparedness to combat any violent protest in that regard, said: “Actually, we have taken necessary security step that is expected of the command, in partnership with other relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies to ensure people do not take laws into their hands. Areas are being monitored while we appeal to residents to be law-abiding.”

Recall that aggrieved youths, under the aegis of Youth Action For Success, YAS, led by its National President,  Prince  Jeskaya Okorie, who is also the South East Co-ordinator, had said after a peaceful protest in Enugu, Tuesday, that South Africa must stop the xenophobic attacks since no nation had the monopoly to kill other nationals.
