Move on Nigeria, a civic action group promoting democracy and good governance, has accused the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari, of electing to shred the Nigerian Constitution to protect party financiers who are either accused of corruption or facing corruption charges. The group cited alleged corruption allegations made against some financiers of the APC.

The group’s position is coming on the heels of the declaration by Buhari in Kaduna that he will not probe corruption cases predating May 2015 if he is elected president. Buhari’s feeble and half measured stance against corruption, the group said, can only be cheering to the corrupt few but a big worry to impoverished Nigerians who will never get justice.

In a statement issued by Move on Nigeria and signed by its National Coordinator, Mr. Clem Aguiyi, the group described Buhari as an intriguing character with a conflicting personality. “On one hard he reeks of a disciplinarian who brooks no frivolities and is stern to the point of seeming brutish. On the flip side, his relationship with his political friends present a different picture that paradoxically echoes a split persona”, the group said.

‘Nigeria is sick and tired of corrupt individuals and impunity in public places hence what is required is the strengthening of our anti-corruption institutions so that they can do their jobs effectively without any executive interference’.
