MAIDUGURI— Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State’s convoy crushed two people, including a supporter of All Progressives Congress, APC, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries as people struggled over bundles of N200 notes thrown at a crowd in Maiduguri.

Governor Shettima had been attacked by thugs while going round the streets in that last one week.

It was apparently to stave off the attack that prompted the governors’ handlers to throw bundles of cash to the people on the streets, a situation that caused many people to line up the streets waiting for him whenever he was scheduled to go round the city.

It was gathered that Shettima who had successfully launched the free food distribution programme in Maduganari ward, had followed an escape route to avoid some desperate thugs.

Vanguard learnt that as the convoy approached the Damboa – Central Bank Quarters road in the metropolis, Shettima started spraying some Naira denominations, popularly now known as (Yirne in Kanuri) which caused scrambling among residents, leading to the killing of two people with the crushing of a leg of Civilian JTF member who was assisting the security agencies in fight against the Boko Haram menace at about 1pm.

The source who accompanied the governor to the venue said, “We just launched a free food programme in Madugnari ward, and when we were about reaching Government House, there was a huge crowd chanting ‘’APC, APC; We want Buhari for Change.

‘’When the Governor started spraying cash on the streets, they started struggling, a situation that led to the crushing of two people including a member of vigilante youth who sustained fractures on his leg.

“Already, the civilian JTF member has been referred to the Orthopedic Hospital for treatment while those who lost their lives have not been officially reported to us.”

When contacted on phone for his comments, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Communications, Mallam Isa Umar Gusau said, he was not in Maiduguri to comment on any issue regarding the Governor’s activities.

“Thank you for calling me on this issue, even though I am not in Maiduguri to actually know what happened, but I plead with you to give me one day to find out.”
