ABEOKUTA—The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that, it had not been notified of the new date for the re-scheduled senatorial primary of Peoples Democratic Party date for Ogun  Central Senatorial district,which was inconclusive.

Aspirants to the Ogun Central Senatorial district are Hon. Lanre-Laoshe, a former member of the House of Representatives and Mrs. Bisola Sodipo-Clark, wife of prominent Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark.

The Administrative Secretary of INEC in Ogun State, Dickson Atiba told Vanguard on phone that, the commission was at the party Secretariat to supervise the exercise which, was inconclusive.

It would be recalled that the primary was hurriedly halted on Sunday due to tension between the delegates of the two contestants -Lanre Laoshe and Dr. Bisola Sodipo-Clark.

The state chairman of the party, Adebayo Dayo, had said both contestants were ‘uncooperative’ and the charged environment necessitated the postponement.

According to INEC , the PDP has not given us new date. We are still waiting for the party to notify us of the new date.

When asked whether, the PDP has submitted its candidates list, Atiba said “the party has brought the result.

“We are observers, we know what happened, we know the Ogun Central Senatorial primary was inconclusive, but, the party has submitted its result.

“We can not do anything whatever the party submits, we will only write our observation at the primaries”, he said.

I’ m still in governorship race —Bankole

Meantime, former Speaker of House of Representatives , Dimeji Bankole yesterday, said he was still in the governorship race in Ogun State.

Bankole stated this in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Dimeji Bankole Movement ,Kayode Akintunde in Abeokuta.

He, however, condemned the action of the leadership of the party in the state for conducting the primaries, despite the order by the national leaders to put them on hold, describing it as shocking.

The PDP in the state had held its primaries for all the aspirants include governorship which had been cancelled by the National Working Committee.

According, to Bankole, the decision not to hold the primaries was reached on Sunday with the leadership of the party in Abuja.

“The meeting which had the National Working Committee, led by Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu , Hon. Dimeji Bankole, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Prince Buruji Kashamu in attendance where certain decisions were taken. ‘’
