PDP primaries: Tension mounts in Plateau

Jos – Tension mounts in Plateau state PDP gubernatorial primaries as 15 aspirants and their agents complaint against the procedures of the exercise saying the government has concluded plans to rig them out even before the process begins.

The aspirants also complained about the  numbering of ballot boxes saying the process will not free and fair.

The aspirants also decried conflicting figures on the names of delegates as well as unnecessary delay and none accreditation of delegates.

However, Sen. GNS PWAJOK whom the delegates alleged has been favoured by the State governor, Jonah Jang said “why should they  begin to create a room when the game has not started?”

He said the electoral chairman, Alh Abdullahi Ohioma has the right to dictate the rules of the game but expressed disappointment that the other contestants are being mischievous just to cause problem.

One of the aspirants, Mr. Godfrey Miri, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner said, “I know the procedures and we have not followed them. They want to manipulate the process to suit the crown prince. They should not hide, let them come and crown him in the open and let us see if he will win the general election.”

The state deputy governor, Ignatius Longjan who is also a contestant solicited the cooperation of the electoral officers for smooth voting exercise saying “let the rules of the electoral process be followed so that the 16 aspirants can have free and fair exercise.”

The chairman of the electoral committee, Abdullahi Ohioma pleaded for understanding amongst the aspirants .

At the time of this report, 6.55pm, voting was yet to commenced as some delegates called for postponement saying the venue was not well lit.
