The Anglican Church has voted against ordination of women. It took the decision at the General Synod held in Enugu.

Presided over by the Primate of the Anglican Church, His Grace, the Most Revd Nicholas Okoh, the General Synod overwhelmingly voted against the proposal for ordination of women in the Anglican Church.

The vote was contained in a report from the Synod presented by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli, Rt. Revd Cyril Odutemu during the Joint Boards of the Diocese at the All Saints Cathedral Ughelli.

According to the report, participants at the Synod, comprising the House of Bishops, House of Clergy and the Laity, shut the door at the proposal.

Bishop Odutemu said of the 514 participants in the Synod, 482 voted against the ordination of women, while 32 voted for.

The Laity, comprising women from all walks of life, also voted, with 211 against and two for.
