WARRI — VICTIMS of June, last year’s oil pollution caused by a sunk oil vessel, J.S. Amazing, have cried out for help, saying that the delay in sending relief materials and payment of adequate compensation by the Product and Pipeline Marketing Company, PPMC, insurance company and other government agencies was causing them more harm.

In a letter by Concerned Oil Pollution Victims, signed by Dr. Clarkson Aribogha, the victims called on the member representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Daniel Reyenieju, to double efforts at expediting action on the issue, just as they commended him for all the positive steps so far taken to address the matter.

According to the victims, the delay, after assessment by the National Oil spill Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, since 2009, by the various bodies to respond to perform their responsibilities, is tantamount to seeking for trouble that may snowball beyond all imagination.

They claimed there had been no relief materials, clean-up or remediation and compensation.

The J.S. Amazing got sunk at Ijalla NNPC loading jetty and spilled its content into the tidal waters which caused so much damage to aquatic and economic life of the surrounding communities.

The victims urged relevant agencies to wake up to their responsibilities, as violent action would lead to disturban-ce of the peace in the state.
