Bauchi—The Bauchi State police command,  yesterday said it has beefed up security for today’s Independence Day celebration  in a bid to save people from attack by suspected insurgents in the state.

Police sources said that the command had deployed it’s officers and men for aerial patrol across the 20 local government areas of the state, adding that this would be complemented with motorised patrols as well as intelligence monitoring by undercover agents, to ensure adequate security for the people.

State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed confirmed in an interview with Vanguard in Bauchi that all police formations across the state would in addition deploy policemen at strategic locations in their respective jurisdictions ahead of the celebration.

He said: “The state command has placed all policemen across the 20 local government areas at red alert to ensure full security coverage for residents as we celebrate the country’s independence today.

“As part of strategies to secure the state, officers and men of the command in the state will be deployed for aerial patrol. Motorised patrols would also comb every nook and cranny of the state and this would be complemented with intelligence operatives.”

Mohammed further said the police would work with other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the citizenry during and after the celebration.
