NTI Distributes Ebola testing kits

By Henry Umoru

THE National Teachers’ Institute, NTI, has distrusted Ebola testing kits to state Commissioners of Education as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the disease among school children across the country.

The organization said in a statement, weekend, that it chose to play a pivotal role in the fight against Ebola, given the fact that an outcome among school pupils could be devastating to the nation.

Director-General of the NTI, Dr. Aminu Sharehu, who made a symbolic presentation of Ebola testing kits to the chairman of the Council, Barr. Ali Sa’ad Birnin-Kudu, said that in addition to the distribution of the testing kits, NTI has undertaken several sensitisation workshops for teachers on the issue.

He added that it was the responsibility of the Institute to sensitise teachers in the country, whenever there was any epidemic.

Sharehu said that kits were also distributed among executive chairmen of SUBEB across the 36 States in the country and the FCT, as well as, the Nigeria Union of Teachers and some schools across the 36 State and FCT.

Barr. Burnun-Kebbi said that the distribution of the testing kits was significant in view of the critical roles teachers had to play in arresting the infectious disease in the country.
He described the move by the Institute on the production of the manual and sample kits as apt and desirable.
