Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, restated its commitment to the Lagos Traffic Law resisting motorcycle operators (Okada) from plying some designated roads in the state.
The party’s position was in reaction to the allegations by the Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the APC-led state government was changing its policies including the traffic law as a way of luring voters for 2015.
At a briefing in Lagos on, “Issues about the regulation of Okada in Lagos State,” the state chairman of the APC, Chief Henry Ajomale, said the party had resolved to back the state government in implementing the law to the letter.
According to him, the party was “compelled to join issues with the PDP in Lagos State over their resolve to bring Okada issues to the front burner, as a campaign matter for the forthcoming 2015 elections.
“We are going ahead to enforce it. If we reverse it, our party and government will be in trouble. Nigeria is developing and Okada should not be a means of livelihood. PDP is using the Okada issue as a political tool, therefore, encouraging Okada riders to disobey laws of the state.”
He claimed that 80 per cent of Okada riders in Lagos were not Nigerians, noting that the “development is not healthy for the state.”
