The Urhobo people of Warri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, have appealed to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leadership at the state and national levels to prevail on the Itsekiri people of the council to adhere to former Governor James Ibori’s Road Map of Peace in the area.
They said “the road map stipulates representation of electoral wards by the ethnic nationality in control of any of the areas for sustainable peace.”
Mr. Tefa Ekure, a community leader, who spoke for the group, noted that the Ibori peace initiative was aimed at giving the three Warri indigenous ethnic groups the opportunity to participate in the governance of their area.
Ekure said that natives of Igbudu community from where Mcdemott Ward was carved out for the Urhobo of Agbarha Kingdom, Warri, will resist any attempt to impose an Itsekiri councillor on the ward.”
