One of the contestants, Michelle  stated her reasons for participating in the competition; “I have decided to enter Miss Teen Nubian pageant due to the amazing ethos the pageant embodies. The pageant represents empowerment and education as well as charitable work which are important factors to me.

If I win the Title of Miss Teen Nubian 2014 I would like to achieve great things during my year of reign. One of these being to inspire and motivate the Afro-Caribbean diaspora in the UK to aim to be the very best that they can. I would also like to set up my own charity which will aid people in Africa and help them realise and achieve their goals. Ultimately, I would like to become a role model for the Afro-Caribbean community and propel any issues in the community to the forefront and hopefully get them resolved”.

The organsiers describe the competition thus:

Miss Teen Nubian is a unique and fantastic project being organised as a Cultural Beauty Pageant for young females of the Afro-Caribbean Community living in the United Kingdom (UK). It is a conservative beauty pageant and as such we are confident of our ethics that guides this industry in that we do not promote or support swim wear or any form of clothing which may exploit teenagers who are from ages 13-19.

Miss Teen Nubian is to strengthen the voices and representation of the young females within the Afro-Caribbean community. It is the first Afro-Caribbean teen pageant with a huge emphasis on charitable deeds hence we believe it will enable young Afro-Caribbean teens all over the UK to realize their talents, engage in community work and realize their visions.
