Lay down your arms, NLC begs insurgents, others

By Victor Ahiuma-Young

NIGERIA Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday called on those unleashing mayhem on the country in the spirit the just concluded Eid-el-Fitri to lay down their arms and embrace the path of peace, even as it called on government at levels to recommit to good governance.

NLC in a statement by its President Mr. Abdulwaheed Omar, called on Nigerians, irrespective of class, creed, ethnic, religious or political space, to rededicate themselves to a strong, united and vibrant Nigeria that would be a collective pride.

According to the statement “We enjoin all Muslims across Nigeria and indeed all over the world to take a lifetime observance of all the lessons learnt during the Ramadan period and continue to humble themselves before Almighty Allah with conscious service to the upliftment of humanity.

”It is indeed unIslamic not to love ourselves as part of the same human race regardless of racial, class, ethnic, political or religious backgrounds. This is what strengthens the labour movement across the world and we believe all other segments of the society, particularly the Nigerian society, can be strengthened by adopting our commitment to unbridled commonality in purpose and focus.

“All Nigerians, no matter what class, creed, ethnic, religious or political space we belong should rededicate themselves to a strong, united and vibrant Nigeria that will be our collective pride. Though we face several challenges at the moment, but it is our belief that none of these challenges can weaken our zeal for peace, collective progress and a stronger country that is united in all ramifications.

“While we renew our call to all those foisting violence on our country to lay down their arms and embrace the path of peace, we call on government at every levels; federal, state and local governments as well as all arms of government to recommit themselves to good governance.”
