Asaba—DELTA State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has said that the activities of Boko Haram members were potential threat to the eradication of polio in Nigeria and called for vigilance from states where there are no incidences of polio virus.

He spoke, yesterday, at the 2014 first quarter polio eradication sensitisation campaign in Sapele, Delta State.
The governor noted that Nigeria ranks alongside Afghanistan and Pakistan as countries that still have cases of polio in the world, stating that while the other two countries have crises related to war, the activities of Boko Haram members in Nigeria were hampering the eradication of the polio virus and forcing Nigerians to migrate to safer states.

He said: “Today, there is crisis in some parts of the North, so there is the tendency that people might migrate to other parts of the country, this is why we must be vigilant. Crisis does not help anybody, we must avoid trouble and anywhere there is war, there is displacement.”

He said that though no incident of polio had been witnessed in Delta State in the last five years, people should be vigilant, so as to ensure that their children were immunized against the dreaded disease.
