Umuahia market relocation, dream come true – Gov Orji

UMUAHIA — Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, has said that the effective relocation of the central market in Umuahia which had hitherto disrupted development as it occupied the better part of the capital city is a long dream come true.

In a statement in Umuahia, yesterday, by his Special Adiver on Public Commuication, Mr. Ben Onyechre, The governor said: “I am particularly thankful to the traders and indeed all the indigenes of the state for their encouragement and support which played a major role in my determination to relocate the market once and for all.

“The realisation of this project has become a veritable game changer because it will expose the developmental efforts of the government as it will also serve as a gateway befitting of the capital city.

“The demolition of the old market is not only a natural expansion of the capital city, but will also avail breathing spaces to the inhabitants of the city as it has pulled the wool from the eyes of doubting Thomas’s most of whom had thought that government would not summon the courage to carry out its responsibilities, particularly such that will add value to the lives of the people by enhancing the usage of existing amenities.

“This government has built a state of the art market were old and new traders have been peacefully relocated. The challenges we have had in the past is that some critics who are sworn enemies of the state will never tolerate the development of Abia so that they will continually flaunt their wealth, intimidate the people because they want to be calling the shots, but fortunately, people are politically more conscious as they have come to realise their rights and privileges in a political space where any man can aspire to any position.”
