Yenagoa — The Police in Bayelsa State, yesterday, denied alleged complicity in the violence that rocked Agrisaba community in Nembe Local Government Area over kingship tussle.

The state Police command warned indigenes of the community not to drag the force into the intra-communal matter.

Armed youths reportedly invaded the venue of a meeting in the community penultimate week and attacked the Regent, Chief Sampson Awudul and other chiefs over succession argument in the community.

The embattled Regent and Chairman of the Chiefs’ Council of the Agrisaba community, Chief Sampson, had alleged that the attack was sponsored by some persons, who used their closeness to the corridors of power in the state to harass and intimidate the chiefs and the youths leadership in their quest to foist a new leadership on the community.

The Regent and his loyalists had claimed that the attack was carried out by men of the Nigeria Police Force and pleaded with the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and rescue them from alleged gang-up between the police in the state and some agents of the state government.

But the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hillary Okpara, in a statement, yesterday, dismissed the claim.
