ABUJA—Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, has threatened to revoke the land allocated to genuine operators of parks should they fail to develop such parks.
Bala gave this warning in a meeting with some officials of the FCT Parks and Recreation Department.
He insisted that efforts must be made to develop the parks in accordance with the conditions they were leased to them.
He said: “It is highly advisable that any park operator that earlier had genuine documents through public bidding or ministerial approval, should endeavour to develop them under the conditions within which it was granted or risk being revoked. Such offers were made with certain conditions attached, which must be conformed with.”
He reiterated that such lease was neither meant to be transferred nor sold to a third party.
The Minister restated that the FCT Administration would not release title documents on any Park & Garden within the 8,000 square kilometers of the Federal Capital Territory to any operator.
He revealed that all Certificates of Occupancy meant for the Parks & Garden in the Territory were domiciled in the Department of Parks and Recreation in Abuja Metropolitan Management Council.
Senator Mohammed reiterated that no title document on any of the Gardens would be released to the park operators because such areas were only being sub-leased and would be taken back at the expiration of the lease period, depending on activity on such areas.
According to him, the activity on such parks determines the lease period, which is being graduated between 5 and 35 years.
