Asaba—Former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Dr. Olisa Imegwu, who was impeached in 2008, Thursday, said the move against him then was punitive, because he stepped on big toes and refused to apologise, an act which, he said, would have amounted to mortgaging his conscience.
Speaking to Vanguard, in Asaba, Imegwu, said: “What led to my impeachment, was a report indicting my deputy. A report was done and I was told not to deal with it. I said no, I couldn’t help it, that if they wanted, they should lobby my people.
“They lobbied the legislators but I refused and I was removed. Then, when I criticised government for not developing my place, they called me upstairs and told me I should apologise that if I did so, I would not be suspended, that I was behind what my people were saying. They gave me three months suspension and I served it.”
