LAGOS — Following investigation into alleged fraudulent practices and disrespect to party hierarchy, the Mega Peoples Progressive Party, MPPP, has expelled its earlier suspended National Secretary, Hamisu San Turaki.
It would be recalled that MPPP had two weeks ago announced the indefinite suspension of Turaki for alleged gross misconduct, incompetence, impersonation and other anti-party activities.
A resolution after a two-day National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the party in Lagos, through its National Chairman, Chief Rasheed Shitta-Bay, said its decision was based on critical observations and complaints from members of the party, consequent upon which a disciplinary and arbitration committee was set-up.
The chairman of the 10-member disciplinary and arbitration committee of the party, Professor Chinedu Adiele, announced the expulsion in Lagos.
Adiele said the suspended secretary had been given the opportunity to defend himself twice but failed to do so.
According to Adiele, the suspended former national scribe was alleged to have collected millions of Naira and car gifts from some states in the South-Eastern part of the country, notably Imo, Delta and Bayelsa states without any official record.
Adiele said: “All the gifts purportedly collected, including the monetary gifts, were not remitted into the account of the party nor the car gifts handed over to the party leadership.
“When the allegations were mention to his hearing, the suspended secretary failed to put up any defence to the allegation.”
Adiele also claimed that Turaki usurped the position and responsibilities of the chairman at various fora and was, therefore, guilty as highlighted in article 20 and 21 of the party constitution.
