TWO persons including the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State, Lady Opeyemi Adefarati have died in an auto crash along the Owo-Ikare Expressway.
The crash according to eyewitness account occurred late Thursday.
Confirming the incident, the image maker of the state Police Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran said the incident occurred around 8:25pm at Iwaro-Oka junction along the highway.
Adeniran said the accident happened when a trailer with Registration number ABJ 413 XA, lost control while descending the Oke Maria hill and rammed into the Toyota Camry car with Registration number GG268 EKY in which the deceased chairman was travelling.
Late Adefarati and the other unidentified person were said to have died on the spot.
Aremu pointed out that only two persons out of the seven people that were involved in the accident died.
According to the Police Image Maker, three other persons in the vehicle who sustained serious injuries included the late chairman’s police orderly.
They were later rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for urgent medical attention by sympatisers.
Aremu said the trailer had knocked down and killed one person shortly before it ran into the vehicle conveying late Adefarati.
The corpses of the late Adefarati and that of the identified person had been deposited at the General Hospital in Ikare.
It was learnt that immediately the accident occurred, officials of both the Federal Roads Safety Corps and the Nigerian Police Force rushed to the scene to rescue the victims.
Meanwhile, the Akoko South West council area where the deceased chairman held sway before she met her untimely death wore a mourning mood as workers gathered in group to discuss the incident.
