ABUJA — The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Ibrahim, with the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Staff, Thursday, signed the ‘Performance Contract Agreement’ as directed by President Goodluck Jonathan, to ensure that ministers and their MDAs, put in maximum performances to meet key performance indicators of government.
Directors of departments in the ministry as well as Commandants of Tri-Service institutions of the military like the National Defence College, Nigerian Defence Academy, Military Pensions Board, Defence Industries Corporation and Directorate of Defence Intelligence also took part in the exercise.
Speaking at the signing ceremony which took place at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada said: “Mr. President in his quest for sustainable development and to achieve the provisions of the Transformation Agenda had signed the performance contract agreement with all the ministers.
“According to Mr. President, it was not a punitive measure but a means to ensure that viable performance targets are set and achieved. It will also contribute immensely towards the achievement of Vision 202020.
Disclosing that she signed on behalf of the ministry, the performance contract with the President on August 22, 2012, the minister said: “Consequent upon this, Mr. President directed all ministers to cascade the performance contract agreement to permanent secretaries, heads of agencies and parastatals and directors.”
Erelu Obada explained that “in order for the ministry to understand and sign the performance agreement for the three remaining stages, her ministry through its relevant departments organised a retreat for directors, service chiefs, heads of parastatals and agencies from 13th to 14th September 2012 and 4th October 2012 respectively.”
