Austine & Partners unveils Funny Bone as ‘The Voitis Man’

What began as a brand idea built around confidence, composure and refinement took physical form as Austine & Partners International Ltd officially revealed Nigerian comedian and actor Stanley Chibunna, popularly known as Funny Bone, as “The Voitis Man” for Voitis Single Malt Whiskey.

The unveiling was held on Friday, September 4, at The Delborough in Victoria Island, Lagos, where guests gathered for a black-tie evening themed “One Man. One Moment. One Legacy.” The event opened with a black carpet before the main programme, placing the personality behind “The Voitis Man” at the centre of the night.

For Austine & Partners, the unveiling represents more than attaching a familiar face to the whiskey. It gives a human identity to the qualities being built around Voitis Single Malt Whiskey, captured in the statement “Smooth by Nature. Savvy by Choice. Calm in Every Moment.”

Voitis Single Malt Whiskey, owned by Austine & Partners International Ltd, is positioned in the premium spirits market around craftsmanship, quality and refined indulgence. The company describes the whiskey as having been aged in oak casks for several years, giving it a smooth taste and complex character.

Speaking on the direction of the brand, Austine & Partners CEO Augustine Okonkwo said the lifestyle around Voitis is intended to reflect the same character consumers experience in the whiskey.

“Voitis has always been about more than what is in the bottle. We are building an identity around taste, character and the confidence to enjoy every moment on your own terms,” Augustine said.

That identity now has Funny Bone at its centre. Beyond his established career in stand-up comedy, Funny Bone has built a presence in Nigerian film and television. In 2020, he won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his performance in Smash, adding an acting milestone to a career largely recognised through comedy.

According to Augustine, Funny Bone’s selection was shaped by how naturally his personality connects with the character Austine & Partners wants “The Voitis Man” to represent.

“The Voitis Man is confident without forcing it, composed without losing personality and comfortable in his own space. Funny Bone brings those qualities together naturally,” Augustine said.

The mood of the night gave those qualities a visible setting. Guests moved through the venue with glasses of Voitis in hand, conversations continued across the black-tie gathering and the overall atmosphere carried the polished, confident energy associated with the whiskey.

Beyond the social atmosphere, the evening also included media engagements with Arise TV involving Sandra Iyawa Somtochukwu, Chairman of Austine & Partners; Amah Ayebaeneni Obioma, General Manager of Austine & Partners; and Stanley Chibunna, popularly known as Funny Bone and now The Voitis Man. Their conversations offered further insight into the thinking behind the unveiling and the direction being created around Voitis.

Sandra said the moment reflects Austine & Partners’ intention to give the whiskey a stronger identity while keeping the product itself at the centre.

“The quality of Voitis remains fundamental to what we are building. The Voitis Man gives us another way to express that quality through character, presence and experience,” Sandra said.

For Amah, the unveiling creates a more tangible way for consumers to understand what Voitis represents beyond its taste profile.

“We want every interaction with Voitis to communicate something distinctive. This gives the whiskey a personality people can recognise while still keeping the experience of the product at the heart of it,” Amah said.

Their remarks reinforced the wider intention behind the unveiling and created a clearer link between the whiskey itself and the person chosen to represent it. That naturally placed attention back on Funny Bone and what stepping into the role means from his own perspective.

Speaking during the Arise TV engagement about stepping into the role, Funny Bone said “The Voitis Man” represents qualities he connects with personally.

“It is about being confident, composed and comfortable in who you are. Those are qualities I understand, and I am proud to represent them with Voitis,” Funny Bone said.

His remarks also give the unveiling a more personal dimension, showing how the role is expected to be carried beyond the event itself. For Austine & Partners, that creates room to extend the Voitis story through future appearances, media engagements and brand experiences as the whiskey continues to grow its presence in Nigeria and across West Africa.

Within that broader direction, “The Voitis Man” gives Voitis a more recognisable personality, connecting the whiskey with confidence, composure and individuality while allowing Austine & Partners to deepen the experience being built around the brand.
