The Nigerian society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) Edo/Delta chapter, has called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to improve and aggressively expand power infrastructures across the country.

It lamented that the present state of power supply in the country cannot support industrialization, noting that it weighs heavily on small and medium scale businesses that resorts to alternative means to augment their power needs, thereby increasing net cost of production and services.

The call was made recently in Warri during a two-day working visit of the National President of the Society, Engr. Bayo Olarewaju-Alo, and Executive Secretary, Engr. Anthony Ogheneovo.

Highlight of the visit was a Technical paper presentation by Dr. A. A Adamu,
and Dr. A Awoyale, titled ‘Advancing Sustainable and Resilient Energy Systems in Nigeria- The Role of Chemical Engineers’, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI).

The event brought together Fellows, Corporate members and students of the society.

Presenting the paper, Dr. Awoyale, highlighted the national energy deficit, possible causes of Nigeria’s energy backwardness, and the possible solutions.

He noted that chemical engineers had a great role to play in the design and operations of the different sources of electrical power systems as well as the optimization of their contribution to the national energy mix.

He stressed the need for government to include the Nigerian society of Chemical Engineers in talks that would help enhance Nigeria’s energy system.

Other members of the Society, lamented the dearth in power infrastructures across the country and added their voice to the call for the Federal Government to take urgent steps in addressing the power generation and distribution deficit.

The Chapter Chairman, Engr. Dr. Teddy Odisu, an Associate Professor of Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), thanked the National President for finding time to visit and encourage members of the chapter.

Earlier, the Edo/Delta Chapter of the Society donated sets of 20 classroom benches to Agbarho Secondary schools, Agbarho, Delta state, and planted trees at the Ugbomrho Secondary School as part of its corporate social responsibilities.

The school managements expressed the profound gratitude to the society for the gesture and call on it to continue to look for ways to support schools within the chapter.

The students of Agborho Secondary School expressed happiness at the gesture and promised to make good use of the items.
