The Katagum Youth Progressive Group (KYPG) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, to carefully review the party’s governorship candidate selection process in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group expressed concern over the possibility of the party presenting a candidate whose previous tenure in public office, it alleged, was marked by inadequate infrastructure development, delayed project execution, disregard for traditional institutions, lack of transparency and poor stakeholder engagement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group said the APC must field a governorship candidate capable of uniting party members, inspiring public confidence and providing a credible alternative for the people of Bauchi State.

According to the group, the party cannot afford to repeat mistakes that could undermine its chances in the next governorship election.

“The APC cannot afford to repeat past mistakes. Bauchi voters deserve a candidate with a proven record of performance, accountability, respect for traditional institutions and the ability to attract widespread public support,” the statement said.

KYPG warned that imposing an unpopular candidate could weaken the party’s electoral prospects and diminish its chances of reclaiming power in the state.

The group therefore urged President Tinubu and the APC leadership to place greater emphasis on competence, acceptability and grassroots support in determining the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

It maintained that selecting a candidate with broad-based support and a strong performance record would enhance the party’s chances of electoral success and strengthen confidence among members and voters across the state.
