Birthday celebrations are no longer just about parties and cake. Celebrities are shifting the script, using their special day to launch projects that reflect who they’ve become.
Ex-BBNaija star Uriel Oputa kicked it off earlier this year with UU’s Kitchen in Lekki, Lagos. Diana Nyeche and others followed with YouTube movie premieres. Now reality TV star and “certified soft life ambassador” Nelly Mbonu is toeing the same line. She marked her birthday days ago with the opening of her high-end restaurant.
“This birthday was extra special because it was also the celebration of the opening of my restaurant,” Nelly said. She called the launch “a dream come true” after months of hard work to bring her vision to life.
Looking back on the past year, she credited faith for her growth. “His grace has been unwavering. Every prayer I whispered in moments of doubt has been answered, and I can see the beautiful ways my dreams and hopes have come to life,” she said. “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but each tear and trial has shaped me into the stronger, wiser person I am today. I’m deeply grateful for the blessings, the lessons, and the unshakable faith that carried me through. Here’s to embracing the future with hope and courage, knowing that with God by my side, anything is possible.”
Nelly also kept her fashion tradition alive. Instead of typical party glam, she delivered a full editorial moment in a striking avant-garde creation by Mubrik. The look prioritized structure, storytelling, and sculptural design, turning her birthday into art. From business owner to style icon, Nelly Mbonu made this birthday a statement.
