The humanitarian arm of Omega Power Ministries, the OPM Foundation, has intensified efforts to support undocumented Nigerian children living on the streets of Egypt, providing shelter, education and daily welfare for those unable to return home due to lack of legal documentation.
For the past five years, the foundation, founded by Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has been assisting Nigerian children in Cairo who were born to undocumented parents and are unable to obtain birth certificates or travel documents.
Without the necessary documentation, many of the children have been unable to access education, employment opportunities or international travel papers required for their return to Nigeria.
According to the foundation, it has secured accommodation for the children, employed a caregiver, established a free school and ensured regular feeding and clothing support.
The initiative is coordinated in Egypt by Pastor Bartholomew Oklalanwa, who oversees the foundation’s operations in the country.
A source close to the foundation said the intervention began with the provision of shelter and feeding, while the establishment of a free school was aimed at giving the children access to education and a better future.
The foundation noted that sustaining the programme has involved meeting monthly accommodation costs and providing continuous welfare support for the beneficiaries.
As part of efforts to find a long-term solution, Apostle Chinyere has reportedly called on the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt to facilitate travel documentation for the affected children and pledged continued support should they be repatriated to Nigeria.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to engage Egyptian authorities through diplomatic channels to address the challenges faced by undocumented Nigerian children in the country.
The Egypt intervention forms part of the OPM Foundation’s broader humanitarian activities. According to the organisation, it operates 43 free schools, two free specialist hospitals, 18 free housing estates, a school for children with autism and Down syndrome, a free all-girls technical college and a skills acquisition centre for underprivileged Nigerians.
The foundation also provides shelter and educational support for vulnerable persons across Nigeria, with many beneficiaries having completed its programmes and others currently pursuing higher education.
Headquartered in Port Harcourt, the OPM Foundation serves as the humanitarian outreach arm of Omega Power Ministries.
