APC dismisses ‘progressives working together’ claim in Anambra, calls it deceit

By Vincent Ujumadu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has rejected the state government’s claim that it is working in synergy with the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as part of a broader progressive front, describing the narrative as misleading.

State APC Chairman, Senator Emma Anosike, made the remarks while addressing journalists after inaugurating newly elected party officials in the state. He said the party would no longer tolerate what he described as attempts by the state government to take it for granted.

Anosike insisted that the APC, as a national political party, cannot accommodate individuals who are not registered members, stressing that claims of collaboration between APC and APGA were unfounded.

He accused APGA members of using the “progressives working together” slogan for political advantage, warning that such a strategy would ultimately fail.

The APC chairman called on party members interested in contesting the 2027 elections to begin preparations, urging them to openly identify with the party.

“There is nothing like progressives working together. If you want to support the President, you should belong to his party,” Anosike said.

He maintained that only APC members could legitimately align with the President at the national level, adding that those who identify as progressives should formally join the party.

Anosike also criticized the state government’s control of local government structures, arguing that it contradicts its claims of political inclusiveness.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, he expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that elections conducted by the commission would be free from manipulation.

He dismissed suggestions of internal divisions within the APC, asserting that the party remains united and focused on winning future elections.

According to him, the coincidence of presidential and National Assembly elections on the same day should not be used to mislead voters, urging Anambra residents to align with the APC.

“This is the time for members to openly identify with the party. Supporting APC means supporting the President,” he said.

Anosike further claimed that the party has expanded its presence across all wards in the state and is gaining momentum ahead of the elections.

He added that the APC continues to receive support from its national leadership and key stakeholders, expressing optimism about the party’s chances in Anambra in 2027.
