Six Rotary Clubs have jointly executed a transformative Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project at Community Primary School, Iroko Aparadija, Abule Iroko, Ogun State, as part of Rotary International’s commitment to improving lives through its Areas of Focus and Avenues of Service.
The initiative, carried out in recognition of Rotary’s global celebration of Water and Sanitation projects during the month of March, reinforces Rotary’s dedication to creating sustainable community impact, advancing basic education, and promoting disease prevention through improved hygiene facilities.
The commissioning of the project took place on April 1, 2026, at the school premises, with the royal presence of His Royal Majesty, Kabiyesi Oba Architect Olusegun Ayinde Feyijimi Iroko, Gbadewolu I, the Oniroko of Iroko Land, who applauded the Rotary Clubs for their service to humanity.

Members and presidents from all six participating clubs attended the ceremony, showcasing collective commitment and partnership.
The contributing clubs included the Rotary Club of Alakuko led by President Rotarian Oloye Oludare Oyegbola; Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA led by President Rotarian Abigail Akano; Rotary Club of Adeniyi Jones led by President Rotarian Yetunde Ogunyankin; Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters led by President Rotarian Enitan Sophie Oluwa; Rotary Club of Ikeja Airport led by President Rotarian Kunle Olagunju; and Rotary Club of Maryland led by President Rotarian Maruf Bello.
The event also drew significant attendance from the Iroko community, including chiefs, indigenes, and school leaders who expressed gratitude for the meaningful intervention. Among those present were the headmistresses of the beneficiary schools, Mrs. Sodehinde Olorunkemi of Local Government Primary School 1 and Mrs. Olorunkosebi Maryam of Local Government Primary School 2, accompanied by teachers and student representatives. Community leader Chief Tunji Bello, the Basorun of Iroko, also conveyed the community’s deep appreciation for the generous and impactful gesture.
The WASH project is expected to greatly improve access to clean water, enhance sanitation standards, strengthen hygiene practices among pupils, and contribute positively to the overall learning environment. By addressing essential needs within the school, the project advances Rotary’s focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, while also supporting Basic Education and Literacy, Disease Prevention and Treatment, and promoting long-term community well-being in line with the Avenues of Service.
This collaborative effort by the six Rotary Clubs underscores the power of partnership and the Rotary spirit of “Service Above Self,” bringing sustainable progress to the Iroko community and inspiring continued commitment to service across districts.
