Disqualification must follow INC constitution, says diaspora stakeholder ahead of poll

A diaspora stakeholder, Engr. Dadiowei Akpeti, has emphasized that disqualification of candidates in the upcoming Ijaw National Congress (INC) presidential election must strictly follow the INC constitution, noting that eligibility criteria—not popularity—should guide the process.

Speaking on the state of the race, Akpeti said the INC has evolved and now requires leadership grounded in competence and strategic vision. “Disqualification of candidates is based on whether they meet the eligibility criteria set by the INC,” he stated.

He described the current field of aspirants as competitive, reflecting increased interest in leading the Ijaw people. Akpeti stressed the importance of evaluating candidates based on their experience, track record, and ability to serve effectively, to ensure that officeholders can advance the community’s interests.

Commending the INC’s past efforts, he said the body has played an important role in representing and promoting the interests of Ijaw people. He also disclosed that his company, Spotless in Minutes, has sponsored the forthcoming presidential debate to give delegates an opportunity to engage with candidates directly.

Akpeti urged that the INC remain a platform for strengthening the Ijaw community and encouraged initiatives that enable diaspora professionals to contribute positively to regional development.
