…Calls for strengthened security collaboration
By Adeola Badru
Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, on Saturday commended President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, describing the decision as timely and strategic in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
Disu was appointed as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police following the departure of Kayode Egbetokun, the immediate past IGP.
Igboho expressed confidence that the acting IGP’s extensive experience in crime fighting would significantly curb insecurity across the country. He added that Disu’s prior strategic appointments and strong educational background would serve as a catalyst for revitalising the Nigeria Police Force and strengthening its operational capacity.
Igboho made the remarks in a statement made available to journalists after a visit to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Hashimu Argungu. He was accompanied by retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Taiwo Lakanu and the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao.
During the visit, Igboho also canvassed support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, urging Nigerians—irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations—to unite in support of the nation’s progressive socio-economic development.
While commending the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and other paramilitary agencies for their continued efforts in safeguarding the country, he reiterated his commitment to fostering effective collaboration within the nation’s security architecture.
According to the statement, the meeting focused on key issues concerning security and peace in the South-West and Nigeria in general.
Igboho reaffirmed his readiness to synergise efforts toward ensuring a safer and more secure Yorubaland, subject to the approval of the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government.
He stressed that without a peaceful and enabling environment, meaningful growth cannot be achieved, urging citizens to cooperate with governments at all levels to guarantee peace and tranquillity across Nigeria.
Igboho also renewed his call for national cohesion and strengthened security partnerships to ensure stability and development across the federation.
