The 2027 re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received a boost in Lagos on Tuesday as a team of 2025 councillorship aspirants in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, LCDA, launched a political movement to mobilise grassroots support for his second term.

The group, tagged “The Renewed Hope Agenda ’27 Movement,” said it was formed to demonstrate unwavering support for President Tinubu’s mandate and to galvanise backing for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the next general elections.

In a statement issued in Lagos and e-signed by Hon. Emmanuel Dede and Hon. Adamson Omobolaji, coordinator and secretary of the movement respectively, the aspirants disclosed that the platform was launched in partnership with the Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu.

According to the statement, the movement was conceptualised by a “vibrant team of young 2025 councillorship aspirants” who contested the recent local government election in the LCDA.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda ’27 Movement was conceptualised by a vibrant team of young 2025 councillorship aspirants in Apapa-Iganmu LCDA to demonstrate unwavering support for the mandate of our National Leader and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.

The group noted that its official inauguration was held alongside the council chairman, during which members highlighted their contributions to the recent APC e-membership registration and Permanent Voter Card, PVC, registration exercises in the area.

“They reaffirmed their readiness to work tirelessly to ensure a resounding victory for the party in the forthcoming elections,” the statement added.

In his address at the event, the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA chairman urged the aspirants to remain united and focused, warning against caucus politics that could undermine party cohesion.

He stressed the importance of aligning with the broader objectives of the APC, noting that individuals criticised today could become valuable allies tomorrow. He also advised members to accord due respect to party elders and leaders at all times.
The aspirants, however, appealed to President Tinubu; Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the APC National Chairman; Lagos State APC leadership; and leaders of Lagos Central Senatorial District to consider members of the movement for political appointments and party positions.

Specifically, they sought inclusion as Supervisory Councillors and Senior Special Assistants, SSA, as well as participation in the ward, local government and state congresses.

“They also expressed their desire to participate in the upcoming congress and to be considered for roles such as Supervisory Councillors and Senior Special Assistants as part of their political development journey,” the statement said.

Beyond political appointments, the group urged both the Federal and Lagos State governments to accord greater developmental attention to Apapa-Iganmu LCDA. They called for improved infrastructure, increased banking presence and the establishment of factories and industries to stimulate economic growth in the area.

The council chairman, in his remarks, encouraged members to contribute actively to maintaining peace and stability in the community, stressing that a peaceful environment remained essential for attracting investors and fostering sustainable development.

The meeting ended with the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the chairman in recognition of what the group described as his inclusiveness and unbiased leadership, while urging him to remain steadfast in advancing human capital and infrastructural development within the LCDA.
