Adeleke’s infrastructure drive remodeling Ife – Obalufe, others

…laud Governor’s road projects

Indigenes of Ile-Ife in Osun State have described the infrastructure drive of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the ancient town as monumental projects which are already remodelling the city.

This is as residents commended the Governor’s 18 road projects in the town l, describing the feat as a welcome move for the development of the town.

Speaking with newsmen after assessment of projects in the town, including the Lagere Flyover, the Obalufe of Ile-Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura said the ongoing flyover project would not just ease the movement of motorists but it will also add to the aesthetic value of the town.

He also disclosed that the road projects would help raise the town’s status as the global headquarters of Yoruba culture and traditions.

“This projects will promote culture and bring honour to Ile-Ife as the origin of the Yoruba Race, it will be unfortunate when visitors are coming from all over the world to their source and see that most roads are not motorable, it is so embarrassing!

“But I want to commend Governor Adeleke for saving us from global embarrassment by the ongoing flyover project and other township roads in the town. With the good roads now, it will promote our culture in Ife as a whole. As we will be doing Olojo festival by September, Aje festival is coming up next week, at least, tourists and worshippers will ply good roads.”

Also speaking the former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Professor Wale Oladipo described Governor Adeleke’s infrastructure drive in Ile-Ife as monumental.

He described the flyover as a historic and monumental project in the ancient city, admitting that the idea initially caused anxiety among some residents because it was unprecedented in Ile-Ife’s long history.

“we can’t thank him enough, actually when the idea of constructing that flyover was mooted by the Governor, a few people were scared because it’s a novel idea in the history of this ancient city. If you get back into history, a thousand years ago, Ile-Ife was one of the five major cities in the whole wide world but it has become what it became due to rapid urbanization in other areas of the country and especially other parts of Yoruba land. Most of these towns were founded by people who left Ife in early days so we are proud of the growth of the other cities.

“Sincerely we cannot quantify the impact of that particular monument to history that Governor Adeleke has decided to construct in Ile-Ife.”

Earlier, The Director of Highways, Engr Ojebode disclosed that the ongoing N14bn flyover project is 80 per cent completed and will be delivered in record time.

He adds, “We have constructed and completed Iredunmi to oke ijan, Oriyangi to St. John, Manchester to igboya, Olurin to Omi Okun, Ife city Benediction road, London street to Iremo, Ogbingbin to Garage Isale, Agric to Opa Ife, Akinlalu Junction to Akinlalu Town, Magistrate Court to Itamerin Yakooyo and AP Junction Road to Itasin Junction Modakeke.”

“Also, Cele Road to Ajape Junction Modakeke, RCM Road One Alafia Ifetedo, Moore Babaakodi and Osun State University are completed while work is ongoing at Edunabon to Tonkere and Ayedaade roads.”
