By Tunde Oso

Telecom infrastructure service provider company,  IHS Nigeria Limited has pledged commitment to investing in initiatives that deliver long term value, respect the environment and respond to the real needs of most communities.

Director of Sustainability, IHS, Titilope Oguntuga, who made this pledge at the commissioning of Omole Estate Recreational Park, Lagos, built and donated by the company to the community at the weekend; affirmed the company’s commitment to continued partnership with communities and government stakeholders in doing and driving positive sustainable impact.

According to Oguntuga, “At IHS Nigeria we believe that infrastructure goes beyond connectivity and technology. It is about people and the environments in which they live, work and thrive.

“Recreational and green spaces play a critical role in promoting well-being, inclusion and stronger communities. And this park reflects that shared vision,” she said.

Oguntuga acknowledged the support of representatives of the Lagos State Government.

“Your leadership in advancing environmental sustainability, urban greening and livable cities continues to create an innovative framework for initiatives such as this. We see this project as complementary to the state’s broader efforts to expand access to quality public and community spaces.

“I further commend the Omole Estate Executive Committee for their partnership, leadership and commitment throughout the delivery of this project. This collaboration has been instrumental in translating a shared vision into a tangible asset for the community. For us at IHS Nigeria, sustainability is central to how we operate.

Manager, Sustainability, IHS, Tolulope Oyenuga, added, “This project was conceived in response to a shared objective between IHS Nigeria and the Omole Estate community to create a safe, functional and inclusive recreational space that promotes well-being, social interaction and environmental responsibility.”

Oyenuga said “Sustainability was a core consideration throughout the project life cycle. And that’s why we are here today to officially hand over the project to the community.”

Head of Partnership, Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Temitope Okumuyide appealed to Lagosians to “stop cutting our trees.”

“Trimming is okay, but outright cutting down trees is not acceptable,” Okumuyide pleaded.

She urged the residents’ association to maintain the park and keep it green.

“This green area also helps to improve the health of everyone around here,” Okumuyide said.
